Barranco

We arrived to LIma at 1am. After baggage claims, customs and getting a taxi for the 45 minute drive to Barranco (hostel failed to arrange the ride) we did not get to or hostel until 230. Still after all the traveling and sitting, and the hostel being pretty musty, we walked around the area for 20 minutes to unwind. The clImate here was moderately warm and muggy.

The Barranco district is definitely the hip spot. It used to be the beach getaway spot for Peru's wealthy a long time ago, but is now more of a romantic/bohemian spot for everyone.

Our hostel Kaminu gets a solid fair rating. Kind of grungy. But it has a great location in the most famous little alleyway section that leads to the beach, right under the districts iconic footbridge. It also had a rooftop patio which cool, even though it meant we could heat everyone having breakfast right above our room while we recovered from 30 hours of travel with little sleep. Felt great to be horizontal. And thank God for earplugs.

So we spent our only day here walking around this colorful little district and down to the beach (wIth a nap In the mIddle). We had some tasty good too. What's nice about Peru is the local (non tourIst) food spots have one or two menu options for each meal each day, and comes full course. For lunch was a really good potato and corn stew followed by steak rice and beans covered in a tasty sauce. For dinner we went to a tourist restaurant that server traditional pretty cuisine. It had and old time look and feel with dressed up waiters and a guy planning piano. I had alpaca jerky with some root and Kelly had this fried pork dish with different sweet potatoes. Feel good! Before this we tried our first pisco sours at place right above the areas best lookout over the ocean as it got dark. I posted a picture. The bright spot is this lit up cross that's got to be a few hundred feet tall on the south side of the bay.I also included a picture of quall eggs I saw in the grocery store. I thought that was interesting, but saw more of them being sold and prepared on the streets.

Then it was back to sleep. A taxi was to bring us to the airport at 6am.
